Travel clubs - Airstream-only, and others, to consider joining!

Many Airstream owners head out to the National Parks, State Parks, or other RV parks because they’re already familiar with reservations or have favorite spots.  Besides planning out your own itinerary, some clubs offer fully pre-planned trips – like the Wally Byam club or Sisters on the Fly.  There’s also a cool relatively new club that is a way to avoid site fees by staying 1-2 nights for free!

The Wally Byam Caravan Club International is worth serious consideration for Airstream owners – it’s based on and inspired by Wally’s travels (Wally Byam, the founder and creator of Airstream).  There are regional districts, and the district leaders organize trips that can last the duration of a weekend or several weeks.  This is a wonderful way to meet other lovers of Airstream, as well as trade helpful information – most of the time, if you’re having an issue and new to the club, someone will be able to share helpful fixes or tips along the way!

Sisters on the Fly is open to non-Airstream, all RV’s.  Its members are of course women, and it’s another great way to get out on some fun trips without having to do all the pre-planning on your own.  They’re the largest outdoor women’s travel club in the country, and their event list is HUGE.

Harvest Hosts is a club where a low annual membership gets you FREE stays of 1-2 nights at over 700 wineries, breweries, farms and museums across the United States, southern Canada and Baja, Mexico – when you’re a self contained RV.  This is not an Airstream-only club.  You might be the only one alongside a vineyard instead of in a crowded, loud park for the night – and the host owners appreciate your trying and picking up some wine, beer, cheese or lavender from the farm, etc.  There are an additional 300 golf locations if you choose the golf level membership too!  We have a link to a discounted membership if this one is for you:  http://harvesthosts.refr.cc/tedbellabay

What kind of financing is available?

Now that you’ve selected the Airstream of your dreams, to take it home, you can pay via either cash or finance. Like most loans, terms depend largely on credit. There are RV loans that our finance managers would secure for you if you’re qualified, and they of course discuss the details of your purchase especially when working to secure your loan. Some top tier lenders are Bank of America or US Bank, and we also work with credit unions. There are typically two different lengths of payment terms, depending on the amount financed. If under $50,000.00, the term would be 15 years. If over $50,000.00, the term would be 20 years.

Either way, these are simple interest loans that can be paid off in advance to avoid paying the full interest over the term, and there are no prepayment penalties. Be prepared to come up with a down payment, and know that typically down payments can range from 10-30% of the total: purchase price, plus TTL (tax, title and license fees, if applicable-depending on the state of registration).

Another factor affecting the monthly payment amount is interest rate, and this, again, is largely dependent on credit. To get an idea of what payments might apply to the Airstream you’ve selected and based on your credit range, we recommend reaching out to our sales staff who would be happy to help! Where can you rent before your Airstream purchase?

We’re frequently asked if our dealership rents out Airstreams.  Because Airstream travel trailers and touring coaches range from $40,000.00 to $240,000.00, we appreciate that many future Airstream owners would like to try one out before buying!  While we sell and don’t rent Airstreams, our best recommendation is to explore www.outdoorsy.com – Outdoorsy matches RV owners of all types with RV renters.  There are Airstream trailers and Interstate touring coaches to be found, and depending on the locations or the owner’s listings, the rental rates vary.

There are reviews about the renting owners too, making it nice to get a glimpse of who you’ll be interacting with as you begin your adventure.  Depending on your experience, who knows, you could become a future Airstream owner!  You could earn your own rental income as a future owner too?!  Airstreams are intended as a lifetime investment in happiness, why not start your Airstream adventures ASAP, whether you choose to rent, or buy as the next step!
